A stuck garbage disposal is often fixable, but it is also easy to make the problem worse if you keep forcing the switch.
Start with safety
Turn the disposal off before inspecting anything. Never put your hand inside the disposal chamber. Use tongs or pliers for visible loose debris and follow the manufacturer instructions for reset or wrench access.
Match the symptom to the likely issue
If the unit hums, it may be jammed. If it is silent, check the outlet, reset button, switch, and breaker. If it leaks, the source could be the sink flange, dishwasher connection, drain pipe, or a cracked disposal body.
When replacement makes sense
Replacement is usually the practical path when the housing is cracked, the motor has failed, or the disposal is old and repeatedly jams or leaks.
If you are not sure whether this is a quick repair or replacement, start with Runhome and get an estimate from the symptoms you already have.
